Shred-a-Thons are special events that are organized by Emterra and co-sponsors such as Shred-It which help residents securely dispose of personal paper; reinforce the importance of recycling and provides much needed support to the Salvation Army.
This past June hundreds of residents in Chilliwack, British Columbia lined up ahead of time to take advantage of the opportunity to have confidential documents shredded under the watchful eye of Emterra Environmental for free. The successful event netted 1,200 pounds of non-perishable food and $1000 in cash. Emterra provided an additional cash donation of $1000, bringing this year’s contribution to the Salvation Army to $2,000.
In exchange for the free service, residents are encouraged to make a cash contribution or a food donation that goes to the local Salvation Army to supplement their food bank.
Emterra plans to host more of these events in communities across Canada in the near future.
